REINZ succeeds in campaigning for Healthy Homes deadline extension8 Jul 2020

After months of lobbying the Associate Minister and officials for an extension to the 1 July Healthy Homes deadline, we are delighted to advise that REINZ has been successful in their campaign and the Minister has confirmed that the Compliance Statement deadline has been pushed out until 1 December 2020.

Advice from REINZ to property managers is to work with landlords and tenants to have an inspection booked at the earliest convenience. Bindi Norwell, Chief Executive at REINZ says: “We are delighted that following months of lobbying with the Associate Minister of Housing and his officials, that the feedback provided on behalf of the property management profession has been taken on board.”

“There were significant concerns that the Compliance Statement template wasn’t going to be available in time due to the high workload the Government has been placed under as a result of COVID-19, but also that suitably experienced individuals or qualified tradespeople who were expected to complete the Compliance Statements were unable to complete the high number of inspections still required post-lockdown,” she concludes.

Tenancy Services have released the Healthy Homes Standards – Current Level of Compliance Statement which is required in all new or renewed tenancy agreements from the new date of 1 December 2020. The statement is 13 pages long and can be downloaded here:
